The President of Malta George Vella, and his wife Mrs. Miriam Vella visited Gozo on Saturday.
Their first stop was at the Arka Foundation in Ghajnsielem, where the President had the opportunity to visit Dar il-Gublew tal-Hniena and Dar il-Madonna ta’ Pinu, both of which are apartments for independent living for people with special needs.
During this visit, the Chief Executive of the Arka Foundation, Mr. Michael Portelli, explained how more investments are currently being made so that the Foundation, which this year is celebrating its 20th anniversary, can continue to offer help to those in need.
The President praised the two aspects on which the work carried out by the carers of the residents of Dar Arka is based – love and affection.
The visit to Gozo continued at the OASI Foundation, which focuses on prevention, interventions, and other treatment services related to drug and alcohol abuse, and other addictions. Here, the President met with the residents and conveyed a message of encouragement.
The last stop on Gozo was in Xewkija, where the President visited an exhibition of jewellery, using old watch parts dating back to the 1970s. He praised the originality of the work and skills that are required to make such jewellery.
