Police have said that a 37-year-old woman from Birkirkara was seriously injured after falling when she was rock-climbing in the valley of Mgarr ix-Xini.

The incident happened at around the 12.30pm and Police said that the woman fell on to a 30-year-old man, also from Birkirkara, who was trying to help her.

A medical team, as well as members of the Civil Protection Department were called to the scene to assist.

The man and woman were taken by ambulance to the Gozo General Hospital, where the woman was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries, while the man was certified to be suffering from grievous injuries.

Duty Magistrate Simone Grech has opened an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
