100 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 24-hours, the second highest daily number since the start of the pandemic. There have been 22 recoveries, health authorities said, with today’s cases “still being investigated.”

The highest number of cases was 106 in 24-hours which was on the 16th of September and coincidentally there were also 22 recoveries on that day.

From yesterday’s 75 cases, authorities said that 19 were family members of previously known cases, 6 were direct contacts of previously known cases, 2 were contacts of positive work colleagues and 1 case was imported. Details were not given for the other outstanding 47 cases.

There are now 703 active cases, making it 3,681 cases in total, 2,937 have recovered and there have been 41 deaths, the Ministry said. There were 2,315 swab tests taken, with 277,626 having been taken since the start.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control – has not yet updated the figues for today and is still showing for Malta that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 123.2 with the number of cases showing as 3,506 and 41 deaths. Malta is in fifteenth position in the EU/EEA and UK. Czechia is at the top with 398.0.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
