Two out of the three juvenile Greater Flamingos that have been recently released back into the wild at the Ghadira Nature Reserve following rehabilitation “have disappeared,” BirdLife Malta has said.
BirdLife, in a statement said that it is “sad to announce that during the night between 12th and 13th October a person/s entered the Ghadira Nature Reserve from a secluded area using wooden planks to jump over the fence.”
It explained that “footprints on islands that are never visited by anyone are also visible. The sad part of this story is that two out of the three juvenile Greater Flamingos have disappeared, leading us to believe that they have been either killed or taken away.”
BLM went on to say that the police were at the reserve soon after this discovery and are investigating the case. “One can only imagine what would happen to the birds in such reserves without any controlled access.”
BirdLife Malta concluded by saying that it will “continue working hard to make such places a respite and a safe place for birds to be enjoyed by the public.”

What is wrong with people?!? Utmost respect for tradition and heritage, but surely this can’t be Maltese people doing this. We are better than this.
They will be in the freezer ready to stuff for paying customers .
The fact that our politicians back hunting birds for votes is disgraceful for Malta and an encouragement to this people who done this.
This these people went too far! The law should also go very far.. There is no excuse, this in not hunting or sports, it is clearly criminal. Breaking and entry.
More atrocities committed by the knuckle-dragging Neanderthals. It is hard to believe the Maltese government support these savages and actually appointed a hunter as Minister for Gozo, responsible for hunting issues. It is vomit-inducing.
