There has been another record number of cases today, with 122 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the past 24-hours There have been 36 recoveries, meaning that there are now 1,095 active cases. Health authorities said, with today’s cases “still being investigated.”

The brings the total number of cases up to 4,282. There have been 3,142 recoveries and 45 deaths, the Ministry said.

Speaking at the weekly update, Superintendent on Public Health Charmaine Gauci said, that there are currently 18 active cases in Gozo out of the total number of positive cases which includes 1 in hospital.

She said that over the weekend the authorities would be announcing new measures etc to help stop the spread of the virus.

Prof Gauci has asked for workplaces to promote teleworking where possible and adhere to the recommendations.

She also stressed  that everyone should wear masks, particularly when socialising and to wear them correctly, covering the nose and mouth down as far as under the chin.

There have been 11 cases related to bars and 14 cases through sports, including water polo and football. 8 other cases were imported.

She noted that positive cases in relation to bars had once again increased, a reflection of this is the average of the latest cases.

Prof Gauci explained that the average age for positive cases this week is 38.4, with the age range of 25-35.

She said that currently there are 68 patients being treated in hospitals – 6 in ITU, 12 in IDU and 14 in Mater Dei Hospital Covid wards, 14 are at Boffa, 19 at St Thomas, 1 in Karen Grech, 1 in Mount Carmel and 1 at the Gozo General Hospital.

Prof Gauci stressed the importance for everyone to maintain social distancing of at least 2 metres and to avoid crowded areas.

There were 2,882 swab tests taken, with 292,476 having been taken since the start.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control – is showing that up to this morning, not including today’s figures, for Malta the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 214.2 with the number of cases showing as 4,152 and 45 deaths. Malta is in eleventh position in the EU/EEA and UK. Czechia is at the top with 701.9.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
