Trapping for seven species of songbirds opens on TuesdayThe Ministry for Gozo has also announced that trapping for “a research period” on seven species of songbirds – greenfinch, goldfinch, linnet, serin, chaffinch, siskin and hawfinch -opens on Tuesday, the 20th of October until the 20th of December, both dates included.

The Ministry said that “every songbird caught must be released immediately,” and those caught with a ring must be recorded.

The Ministry added that “it is in the interest of trappers to be familiar with all the contents of the registered letter they receive in January 2021 which requests the return of ring form and calendar with dates that the trappers took part in the research, and also to take note of all the conditions of the special license.”

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, while saying that he is “looking forward this first season of research, reminded that no birds caught can be kept.”
