Gozitan contemporary artist, Victor Agius, is being welcomed for a short residency at The Mill by the Gabriel Caruana Foundation for this first edition of The Mill Studio Series.
The Foundation said that “this will be opportunity for Agius to isolate in a confined space during November to document and create new works in dialogue with the legacy, heritage and Gabriel Caruana’s contemporary practice. Agius was a frequent visitor to Caruana’s studios in Balzan and The Mill.”
This residency will form part of an ongoing research process which Agius is currently undertaking where he is investigating remote and unusual spaces rich in contextual and social narratives.
Agius carried out an overnight stay at Ggantija Temples in Gozo in July through the support of Heritage Malta, to conduct artistic research and create insitu interventions.
The Foundation said that the work was inspired from the spirituality transmitted by the vacant heritage site at night. The artist also allowed himself to experiment with various media such as British stoneware clay and terrarossa, a material highly synonymous with his contemporary artistic practice.
On the 3rd, 7th and 8th November 2020, The Mill will be open for visitors to be a part of this ongoing artistic residency. Booking is through Eventbrite. Admission is free, donations are accepted.
The Artist at The Mill Studio Series is a programme developed and supported by the Gabriel Caruana Foundation. An open call will be issued for contemporary artists to submit their interest and proposals for the upcoming 2021 programme.
The Gabriel Caruana Foundation is a Voluntary Organisation. It is supported by Arts Council Malta and has a Collaboration Agreement with Fondazzjoni Kreattività.
The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre (MACCC), is located at Triq Bwieraq, Birkirkara.
