The 19-year old saga continues to save Hondoq Bay in Gozo from development to a commercialised yacht marina.
Qala Council Mayor Paul Buttigieg is appealing to ”all who love Hondoq to show their support for this cause by attending a ”site visit” taking place on Tuesday, the 30th of November at midday.
He explained that the members of the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal – who are to decide on the fate of Hondoq – will be there to see the location for themselves.
Buttigieg stated, ”Gozo has lost so much..let’s not lose Hondoq too. Save Hondoq.”
Mr Buttigieg must be recognized for his ongoing battle to save one of our gems. Let`s all go there

Wish they stop this barbarism. If it’s not Hondoq it’s Xlendi. Wish I was there for support. Unfortunately I live abroad but it seems like every time I read Gozo news there mention of a site being destroyed by vultures. Do the authorities need glasses? Oh I forgot to mention my place of birth is.Gozo and very proud of it.

Can someone please explain what is so marvellous about Hondoq in it’s current state?
A beautiful hidden gem, crystal clear water, small family run cafe, boat services to and from Comino. Not over commercialised, no tower blocks, no empty apartments. Beautiful cliff walk from Mgarr, via HONDOQ, to Cable Bay and beyond.
Is that ok for starters?

You hit the nail on the head there Keith. The walk from Mgarr to Cable Bay (and beyond) is probably as idyllic as you could get. It’s just a shame that, en-route, the badly-laid concrete that constitutes a car-park that dominates ‘pristine’ Hondoq is such a blot on the landscape. As for boat services to Comino, there are more than enough connections from Mgarr,
I agree that it’s remarkable in today’s Malta/Gozo that there are no tower blocks or empty apartments in the vicinity ot Hondoq, but that doesn’t make it particularly attractive. I am certainly not in favour of the proposed development of the site that is (somewhat amateurishly) shown on the graphic, but I don’t think it’s beyond anyone’s imagination that the Hondoq area can’t be improved to benefit locals and tourists alike.
Good luck to the mayor of Qala (and all supporters) in the fight against major construction, but there is certainly room for improvement for Hondoq.
We all agree that Hondoq area needs a make over . Everyone wants it as a national park not as a concrete JUNGLE.
