121 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours, and with 105 recoveries, making the number of active cases at 2,167. There were 3,377 swabs were taken over this period. The Health Authorities said that today’s cases are “still being investigated.”

In here weekly update, Superintendent of Public Health Prof Charmaine announced a further 2 deaths. The first, an 86-year-old woman, who had tested positive on the 8th of November and passed away last night at Mater Dei Hospital. The second is a 75-year-old woman who had tested positive on the 10th of November and passed away Friday morning at Mater Dei Hospital. 16 people have lost their lives to the virus this week.

She said that there are 203 patients in hospital, including 15 patients in the Gozo General Hospital, with 2 ITU. In Malta there are 13 in Mater Dei ITU, 13 in IDU and 42 in other Mater Dei Covid wards, 20 in Boffa, 22 in St Thomas, 77 in the Good Samaritan Long-Term Care Facility and 1 in Mount Carmel.

From the 2,167 Covid-19cases, there are 59 active cases in Gozo. This includes 7 cases at the San Lawrenz Care Home, most have been transferred to the Gozo General Hospital.

Prof Gauci said the transmission rate in the community is increasing with the age bracket 22-44. The average age is 42. She went on to say that transmission in the work place is ongoing, with cases of people still showing up at their work even though they are displaying symptoms.

The total number of cases are now up to 8,681. There have been 6,406 recoveries and now 108 deaths, the Ministry said. There have been 398,513 swab tests taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, has not as yet updated its figures today and is showing that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 for Malta, is 370.8 with the number of cases recorded at 8,420, and the number of deaths showing as 103. Malta is currently in 21st position in the EU/EEA and UK. Luxembourg is at the top with 115.2, followed by Austria with 1083.7.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
