Majority of Gozo's available accommodation booked up for end of year - GTA The Gozo Tourism Association in a statement on Wednesday, noted that Christmas in Gozo this year will be celebrated in a restrictive way due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, it said that Gozo will experience another influx of visitors crossing over from Malta to Goz0 to celebrate during the festive period, especially the beginning of a New Year.

“We already have clear indications that the accommodation available on Gozo in its majority is taken up for the last days of the year,” the GTA said.

The Gozo Tourism Association added that it “welcomes all the domestic visitors to our hospitable island.”

The Association went on to say that “since the start of this pandemic outbreak, and on grasping how all travel was being ruthlessly disrupted, the GTA understood that the domestic market offered an opportunity to mitigate some of the lost foreign visitors on the island.”

The GTA stressed that “these guests will be hosted in the Gozitan accommodation units who are operating under strict Health Protocols, as issued by the Health Authorities and the Malta Tourism Authority. This to ensure health safety both to the visitors and the employees in our touristic establishments.”

During these difficult months, the Gozo Tourism Association said that through its daily contact with its members “can vouch that the majority of Gozitan tourism establishments are observing the Health protocols.”

“They are continuously enquiring and asking for clarifications in order to be in line with any changes. To this end, we emphasis and encourage all these establishments to continue following the Health recommendations and instructions,” it said.

The Gozo Tourism Association has also appealed to all the guests who will be visiting Gozo during this festive season, to “strictly adhere to the instructions, warnings and appeals that are being announced continuously by our Health Authorities.”

In such challenging times, during a pandemic, health is a priority as it is also part of the economic growth, it said.

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by saying that it “believes that being responsible and acting diligently at all times during this holiday period is the interest of the entire nation and the best gift one can donate for the festive period.”
