€300,000 has been allocated to the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) for 2021 – the first year of a Gozo training programme for jobseekers.
This has been made possible through an agreement signed between the Ministry for Gozo and the FSWS, which was presided over by the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and Minister for Solidarity and Social Justice, Family and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon.
It was explained that with this agreement, through the Directorate of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services for Gozo, a training and integration programme will be offered aimed at strengthening inclusiveness and independent living.
This builds on other programmes offered by the FSWS Directorate in Gozo in the community and in residential settings.
Training for employment and entrepreneurship is a methodology and set of tools for the transition from school to work and accessibility to the labour market for vulnerable groups. This methodology is based on 36 months of training, the Directorate said.
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri said that “although we have economic growth and a reduction in the level of poverty, we must continue to attach importance to the inclusion of vulnerable groups.”
He added that “this government is working hard to further improve the education system and vocational training as well as create new job opportunities.”
Camilleri said that however, “we also recognise that there are still individuals from certain vulnerable groups facing particular challenges and disadvantages due to their economic, social and cultural situation and our goal is to work to help these individuals.”
The Minister for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and the Rights of the Child Michael Falzon, said that “this is a clear example of how we must continue to encourage young people to believe more in themselves and through such help seek job opportunities.”
Minister Michael Falzon said that this training programme is a clear example of the realisation of social justice especially with people considered vulnerable.
