520 vehicles were stopped and checked last night during road checks by the Police around Malta and Gozo.

Six drivers were caught driving a vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol, whilst another refused the breathalyser test and was not allowed to drive.

Police said that several drivers were booked for traffic breaches including driving without a valid driving licence, driving without a valid insurance policy, driving without a seatbelt, vehicle being driven with missing number plates and having lights not in accordance with the law among others breaches.

The traffic stops were carried out by the Traffic Branch together with Police Districts, Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU), Environmental Protection Unit (EPU), and other sections.
