The Gozo Back Office Employment Refund Scheme 2021 has been launched, “with the aim of creating quality work in Gozo,” the Ministry for Gozo has said

The scheme was launched by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, who explained that it is “one of the main measures in the budget for this year.”

The Minister said that the main objectives of this scheme are to encourage private entities to expand and invest in their operations on the island of Gozo. The scheme is aimed at both foreign investment in Gozo, as well as Maltese and Gozitan companies in order to create quality and sustainable work in Gozo.

“Following the difficulties brought about by the pandemic in certain economic sectors in Malta and abroad, Gozo has shown resilience, and so we are in a position to announce a scheme that offers lucrative financial incentives. This is also a measure that strengthens the diversification of the economy in our island,” said the Minister.

Minister Camilleri also announced that new jobs in Gozo, which will be classified as Back Office from 1 March 2020, will be able to benefit from a salary reimbursement calculated according to pay of the employee. Each company can benefit from a maximum of € 65,000 per year from this scheme.

The Director of Tourism and Economic Development within the Ministry for Gozo, Ronald Sultana, pointed out that in fact there are three wage brackets, where the higher the salary the more will be reimbursed, with amounts per worker ranging from a minimum of € 4,500 to € 8,000 per year.

The Minister for Gozo explained that, “on this island we are building a strong reputation as an innovative island with a modern infrastructure. However, it does not mean that we are happy. As Minister for Gozo, I promise to continue to raise the level of Gozo in what it is able to offer in order to attract more external investment and increase more internal investment.”

He concluded by saying, “I will continue to work to increase employment opportunities in Gozo for Gozitans. I will continue to work so that Gozo has a quality infrastructure not only in terms of roads but also technological, educational, sports and historical facilities.”
