Two Gozitan priests to be charged with raping altar boy in GozoThe Church Safeguarding Commission, in a statement on Tuesday evening, confirmed that it had passed information to the Police on an alleged case of child abuse involving two Gozitan priests.

Police, in a statement said that following days of investigation by the Police Anti-Vice Squad, enough evidence was obtained to go ahead with criminal proceedings against two Gozitan priests for alleged sexual abuse of a minor, which took place “a number of years ago.” The alleged victim was an altar boy.

The priests were arrested on Monday, and were interrogated today at the Police Headquarters in Floriana.

The investigations by Police were started after a report was given to the Safeguarding Commission.

They will be arraigned in the Gozo Court on Wednesday morning at 8.30am accused of rape and child abuse.

The Church Commission urged anyone who knows of any alleged abuse case to report directly to the Police and to contact the Safeguarding Commission on info@safeguarding.mt.
