Two Gozitan priests were arraigned separately in the Gozo Court this morning, accused of rape and corruption of a minor.
Police said that the alleged abuse took place several years ago, when the alleged victim was an altar boy.
Joseph Sultana aged 84 from Xaghra and Joseph Cini aged 70, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them and they were both remanded in custody.
A request to ban publication of the priest’s names was not upheld by the Magistrate Monica Vella. She ordered that the name of the victim must not be published.
Inspectors Joseph Busuttil and Dorianne Tabone led the prosecution.
