This morning the Minister for the Elderly and Active Ageing Michael Farrugia, together with the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri visited a property in Gozo that the Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC) passed with the agreement of the Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo (FSEG) to be used for the storage of loan equipment for the elderly and sick in Gozo.

This comes after several talks took place between the two entities, when it was decided that there was a need for a joint collaboration together to include equipment loan services for the elderly and sick in Gozo

An agreement was signed for the provision of a property with a warehouse, and the loan of equipment to the sick and the elderly in Gozo.

Equipment offered by this charity with free loans includes the use of beds, crutches, wheelchairs and lifters among others, which in turn are purchased through fundraising activities.

Minister Farrugia said that “this is an exceptional service that helps the elderly and the sick to continue living in the community along with their relatives offering them love and help, while availing themselves of the necessary equipment.”

In the meantime, work is also underway for the elderly in Malta to have a similar service centre.

Minister Camilleri said that this is a necessary service for Gozitans, he also announced that the Ministry for Gozo will be providing annual financial assistance to enable the Friends of the Sick and the Elderly Gozo to purchase necessary equipment.

They then visited Dar Padova in Ghajnsielem where they were shown the various facilities that this house offers for people with dementia during the day and its use as a night shelter for elderly Gozitans.
