Close to 300 children from more than 40 football nurseries took part this year’s edition of the European Parliament Football Festival.
The event, organised by the European Parliament Valletta Office and Youth Football Association, was one of the activities marking Europe Day, Saturday, the 9th of May.
President George Abela, who paid a visit to the football enthusiasts, spoke of Europe Day as a feast of unity, peace and prosperity in the European Union, drawing a parallel with sports as a vehicle of unity between people.
Julian Vassallo, Head of the European Parliament Valletta Office, spoke of Europe Day as the commemoration of the European unity as a lesson learnt for the tragedy of World War II which in turn motivated Europeans to seek prosperity in cooperation.
This was the third year in a row that the European Parliament Football Festival has been held.
