The Federation of Conservationist Trappers (FKNK) on Saturday filed a Judicial Protest against BirdLife Malta.

FKNK in a statement, said that despite the verdict of the European Court of Justice of 10 September 2009 and the result of the Repeal Referendum of 11 April 2015 where in both cases it was “unequivocally confirmed” that spring hunting should remain, “BirdLife Malta has “not yet accepted the two defeats it has suffered and that therefore spring hunting will continue.”

FKNK also claimed that, “every time a spring hunting season opens, BirdLife Malta sees the obstacles. Suddenly because there is not enough data, again under the pretext of Covid, they are now criticising the catch reporting system by hunters.”

“As they say that too many birds are caught, they are now saying that not enough are caught because there is no factual reporting with the reporting system introduced by the Government,” stated FKNK.

The FKNK insisted that it has in fact the “best reporting system in Europe, because real-time catches are reported to authorities by SMS and also the enforcement of rules is extremely efficient.”

The FKNK, in the protest, also called on BirdLife Malta to cease from trying to stop the opening of the spring hunting season.
