The GWU Government and Public Entities Section has registered an industrial action for member workers working in the field of Health Care.
In a statement, the GWU said that a few weeks ago the section ordered an industrial dispute in favour of the same workers, “but unfortunately no changes were made.”
As a result, the GWU said that it has instructed all its members under the Health Care sector agreement, that from Tuesday, those at the Gozo General Hospital, Mater Dei Hospital, Mount Carmel Hospital, St Anthony Mamo Hospital, St Vincent de Paule and nursing homes – do not leave their wards, clinics or departments to do “work-related chores.”
The GWU also instructed that those members in St Vincent de Paul “should not wash and handle patients,” while those in Primary Health Care, “should not communicate over the phone.”
The GWU went on to say that it took this decision after the Section had been trying since November 2020 to reach an agreement on the Sectoral Workers Agreement.
The section added that it is “ready to negotiate an agreement, but reserves the right to increase industrial actions if the previous situation persists.”
