Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg has announced that following the rejection of an application for the reconstruction of a “pile of stones into a tool shed” close to Hondoq bay, “the Qala Local Council was satisfied that the area had been saved.”

An appeal by the developer on this decision was then rejected last month by the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal.

The application for a small “tool shed” with a skylight and a parapet and had been proposed on what is actually the Council said, a “site of a pile of stones on an ODZ untouched, pristine area outside Qala and which was visible from Comino.”

However, the Council has said that the developer is now trying yet another appeal to transform this small pile of stones into a building.

Qala Local Council stated that it will also be contesting this appeal, and will “fight on to safeguard the natural environment of Qala.”

The application was originally turned down following applications by Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg, through lawyer Dr Claire Bonello.
