Fr Guardian Carm Dimech, OFM. Cap, in the presence of altar boys and a gathering of members from the local community officiated the ceremony of the restored bell-cot and restored bell of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces in Victoria.

As documented in Agius De Soldanis’ history of Gozo, Il Gozo Antico-Moderno e Sacro-Profano (1746), soon after their arrival in Gozo in 1736, the Capuchins started work on the erection of the existing Friary and annexed Church on land donated by Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena.

The actual construction of the building itself, erected to the design of Fra Giuseppe Grech, took some fifteen years to complete.

Fra Giuseppe was a Capuchin lay friar who was also responsible for the design of the Capuchin Church and Friary of St Liberata in Kalkara, Malta.

The photograph, by Charles Spiteri, shows the blessing ceremony of the restored bell-cot and restored bell of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces.
