LGBTI+ Gozo has launched the call for the second edition of Gbejniet Activist Academy 2021, with the funding and support of Agenzija Zghazagh through the Be Active Scheme 2021.
The first Gbejniet Activist Academy organised by LGBTI+ Gozo, was a weekend of online training (albeit hindered with the COVID-19 pandemic) that introduced members across all identities to the world of activism.
Through the success and growing need of activists in Gozo, LGBTI+ Gozo said that it has now launched the second edition of Gbejniet Activist Academy, a new innovative way for interested parties aged 16-30 to engage in voluntary work, harness new skills and ultimately become activists.
The organisation explained that this boot camp style academy will include workshops, sessions with LGBTI activist, a weekend retreat and ultimately the devising and execution of their own projects.
This Academy is funded and supported by Agenzija Zghazagh through the Be Active Scheme 2021 and participates can apply at http://bit.ly/GbejnietActivistAcademy2021
Founded on the principle that “we are all different but equal,” LGBTI+ Gozo said that it transformed its operation from a small gathering every few weeks to a key civil society member, rallying behind the need for equal access of services to all Gozitans on the matters like sexual health care, Trans* accessible medication and open youth services on the island.
It went on to say that to create more coordinated, apt and concrete work, the organisation launched its first Action Plan in 2019, a 15 point blueprint reflecting the experiences of over 50 LGBTI Gozitans who participated in the first ever research survey.
LGBTI+ Gozo said that “his research survey reiterated the need for LGBTI Youths in Gozo to have an open safe space where they can be activists towards social causes that they are passionate about.”
