The Legal Notices have now been published with regards to the current travel requirements which applies to all passengers aged 5-years and over.

With the airport opening to tourism on Tuesday, the 1st of June, the requirements published included that any person who travels to Malta, whether by air or by sea, will prior to boarding and upon arrival, provide a completed passenger locater form (PLF) together with a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) Covid-19 test taken not earlier than 72 hours before arrival in Malta.

As from the 1st of June 2021, a valid Maltese vaccination certificate with clearly visible QR codes can be presented instead of a negative PCR result, it said.

However, at this time, no specific date has been provided for the issuance of a local vaccination certificate.

The Government has said that failure to present either, together with a PLF, “will result in denied boarding.” If upon arrival, any passenger (aged 5 and above) is not in possession of any of the above, the passenger will be subject to a Mandatory PCR test and/or Mandatory quarantine against a fee as per legal notice LN229 of 2021.

It is note that the sums of the applicable for the fees will be listed in a Schedule issued by a notice in the Gazette.

The mandatory quarantine, until the test result is issued, will be in an accommodation specifically allocated for this purpose by the Superintendent of Public Health, the Legal Notice says. “The mandatory quarantine shall be extended for such period deemed necessary in the case that that person’s test results positive or detected.”
