At last, just before the heat of summer causes the garbage to ferment and smell out my house making it unbearable to even breathe, the Victoria Gozo Mayor arranged for a By-law notice on the wall underneath my bedroom balcony stating that the spot is not a garbage dump and that fines are set for dumpers.

It all began a couple of years ago when the Hair Salon became a Barber shop. Then the neighbours began to dump not only their coloured bags but also bulky furniture, prams and broken machines. I know most of them and I am sorry for their action because they must imagine my position.

I would like to ask the Mayor to send a note in English to all the neighbours because there are many who do not read Maltese although the fines are written in numbers!

But someone has not even seen the new sign because they placed a Mixed Recycled bag there which wasn’t due to be picked up for several days.

How are they to be fined if not even a temporary camera is put up?

I also would like to thank Councillor Mr. Michael Buttigieg who cared and worked for this cause.

Worse now, rubbish is being put on the central reservation on top of the recently planted shrubs right were people park to visit the Mortuary.
Also a newly opened general store next to the so called barbers shop doesn’t help. Never saw any planning notices for such an establishment, so not sure of legality!

They should do like everybody else and put out their bags on the right day IN FRONT of their front door. Not on central stripe and surely not underneath my balcony.
