UK adds Malta to the green travel list from WednesdayUpdate from Health Minister Chris Fearne below: UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has announced this evening that Malta has been added to England’s green travel list, effective from next Wednesday, the 30th of June.

Anyone heading to the Maltese Islands for holidays will not have to quarantine on their return following the latest review of the travel traffic light system.

Before Maltese travel to England they must – take a Covid-19 test; book and pay for a day 2 Covid-19 test – to be taken after arrival in England and complete a passenger locator form.

Then on arrival in England, they must take a Covid-19 test on or before day 2 after they arrive. They do not need to quarantine unless the test result is positive.

Children aged 4 and under do not need to take this test.

Earlier in the evening, both Scotland and Northern Ireland also added Malta to their green list, with effect from next Wednesday.

Update

Writing on social media tonight, Health Minister Chris Fearne said, “it is very good that Malta has been placed on the British green list.”

He added that, “to protect the health of the Maltese community, anyone from the UK must have a vaccine certificate.”

Later, in a statement from the Health Ministry, it said that “in response to this news, our country will be protecting the health of Maltese residents, and of all those who visit our country, by demanding that from the 30th of June, people flying to Malta from the UK must present a vaccine certificate.

“This means that only persons with a vaccination certificate recognised by the Superintendent of Public Health will be able to enter Malta from the UK without the need for quarantine.

“This decision was taken on the basis of an epidemiological study of the situation of variant cases reported in the United Kingdom.”

So at the moment, as the UK does not appear to have an official Vaccination Certificate and Malta does not recognise anything other than its own certificate at the moment, UK citizens will have to quarantine on arrival! Can’t see many rushing to holiday in a hotel room for 10 days.
No mention of the option still to have a PCR test.
Plus all those going to UK from Malta have to have two PCR tests, one before travel and one within 2 days of arrival. Sounds worse than before to me.
