The Superintendent of Public Health has published standards for quarantine which are required for persons arriving in Malta without a vaccine certificate.

In a statement, health authorities said that this is in accordance with Legal Notice 301 of 2021, ‘Order of 2021 amending the Order on the -Extension of the Travel Ban to All Countries (Amendment No 4).”

People without a vaccine certificate recognised by the Superintendent of Public Health who enter the country from the list of countries listed in the same Legal Notice must be in possession of a negative PCR test that was performed no more than 72 hours before their arrival in our country.

This text must be submitted to allow the person to board the aircraft to Malta. Upon arrival in Malta, persons without a recognised vaccine certificate must undergo a mandatory quarantine period.

The standards require a 14-day quarantine to be held at a hotel recognised by the Superintendent of Public Health.

Children between the ages of 12 and 15 (both ages included) who have a permanent residence in Malta and who do not hold the vaccine certificate may make the compulsory quarantine at their residence. .

Individuals over the age of 16 who are resident in Malta may also apply for the authorisation from the Superintendent of Public Health to carry out the quarantine period in an alternative residence.

The authorities said that each case will be decided on an individual basis. In these cases persons residing in the same residence will have to stay in quarantine for the same period.

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 need only present a negative PCR test when accompanied by adults who have a recognised vaccine certificate. Children under the age of 5 can enter Malta without the need for a PCR test.

Those required to be quarantined in hotels recognised by the Superintendent of Public Health will be required to pay €100 per night, per room, which will include breakfast served in the room itself. Additional costs shall be borne by the person in quarantine.
