101 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,597 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 2.81%.

Authorities said that a total of 36 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, down from 42 yesterday. 4 of these patients are in the ITU.

There have been 119 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 723. The average age of yesterday’s 51 cases was 42.

The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,192 and there have been 33,644 recoveries and 429 deaths.

1,133,384 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 782,600 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has now reached 403,015.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 12th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 34,439 and the number of deaths showing is 428. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 207.36 from 354.28 in the previous week. Malta is now the 10th highest in the EU.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
