MEP candidate for the Labour Party, Steve Borg, met with officials of Nature Trust (Malta), Mr Borg presented his commitment to working on environmental issues with special reference to air quality, noise pollution, sustainable development, ecological restoration and waste strategy where he expressed his concerns on incineration, carbon offsetting and storm water management.

Mr Vincent Attard on behalf of Nature Trust (Malta) thanked Mr Borg for meeting with the NGO and for his commitment to various environmental issues. Mr Attard added that NGOs needed all the support they can get from MEPs, to tap into more financial instruments by the EU.

He said that Malta was in bad need of law enforcement in the various environmental fields and that they were concerned that the reform of MEPA had still not occurred and thus unsustainable development was still ongoing. He concluded by saying that Malta needed an environmental political agenda.
