Persons with disability who regularly attended the Adult Training Centre (ATC) in Ghajnsielem will now be able to meet at the new Santa Marta Day Care Centre, that is better equipped to meet the demands and exigencies of its forty members and their families.
Works on the Santa Marta Day Care Centre have been co-ordinated through the Ministry for Gozo. Besides the building of new premises, the project also involved the reorganisation of its functional and administrative set-ups. Thus the Ministry for Gozo will now be in a position to ameliorate the services it has been giving within this sector for the past thirty years.
The use of facilities and more efficient deployment of resources were better planned through meetings held between the Ministry, the Management of the ATC and professionals from the Gozo General Hospital.
The services to be offered through the new centre include various rooms where members, whose age varies from 19 to over 60, can improve their skills in areas such as the use of computers, woodworking, pottery and other crafts. The centre also includes rest rooms, therapy rooms a mini gym and a hydrotherapy room where a Hammett bath has been installed.
The Santa Marta Day Centre will be catering for the individual needs of these persons who require diversified attention due to their diverse abilities. Training will also include sessions through which these persons may acquire skills for independent living.
The centre, which is centrally located in the midst of the community of Victoria, will also allow for the inclusion of its members within this community in line with an inclusive society policy. The Santa Marta Day Care Centre will also improve the services of a one-stop-shop, where members and their families may avail themselves of all services in connection with persons with disability. These services, that had been initiated about a year ago, will be considerably facilitated through the use of the new premises and equipment.
