53 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight with 31 recoveries. Authorities said that during the last 24 hours a 77-year old man passed away while Covid-19 positive.

This takes the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up to 743. There have been 446 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 31 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, up from 29 yesterday, 2 of whom are in the ITU.

The number of vaccines administered is now 802,042 up until yesterday, of which 1,257 are booster doses.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 1st of September it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 36,123 and the number of deaths showing is 440. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 144.39.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
