The National Statistics Office in its latest data released today, shows that total number of inbound visitors to the Maltese Islands in July was estimated at 121,311, while total nights spent amounted to 1,118,871.

A total of 105,942 inbound tourists visited Malta on holiday, while 5,099 tourists were here on business.

French and Italian residents comprised 29.4% of total inbound tourists, the NSO said.

The largest share of guest nights (81.8%) was spent in rented accommodation establishments, while the average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 9.2 nights.

Total tourist expenditure reached almost €126.5 million. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €113.0, the NSO said.

Inbound tourists for the first seven months of the year amounted to 260,998, this was a decrease of 37.7% over the same period in 2020, as a result of travel restrictions due to the pandemic. Total nights spent by inbound tourists decreased by 5.6% surpassing 2.6 million nights, the NSO noted.

Total tourism expenditure was estimated at €246.9 million, a decrease of 4.5% when compared to the same period in the previous year. Total expenditure per capita stood at €946, increasing from €617 in the same period in 2020, mainly as a result of longer length of stays, the NSO said.
