In a statement on Friday, the Chamber said that “this is a very important step for practising lawyers based in Gozo with the aim of protecting and safeguarding their rights.”

“This development is taking place against the background of the current situation at the Gozo Court, where despite the fact that the lawyers are going through a collective action and are not attending fixed hearings, it seems that the situation in the administration of the Court remained the same,” the Chamber said.

“Despite these actions the Minister for Justice has so far not taken any action and there has been no effort on the part of the same Ministry for any kind of communication,” they said.

The Chamber stated that, “it is an offence to the legal profession that the only action in this regard was a meeting with the staff of the Court Agency, a meeting that was fruitless.”

The Chamber concluded by saying that through this announcement, they are also advising that “the collective action will remain in force and therefore the lawyers will not be attending the scheduled hearings, even during the next week and unless there is further communication.”
