Kamra tal-Avukati Ghawdex – the Gozo Chamber of Advocates was officially launched during a press conference this morning in front of the Gozo Courts to update on the current situation at the Gozo Court.

The Gozo lawyers have been refusing to attend Court sittings since the 30th of September because of a number of “serious shortcomings” within the Court which it said, “are hampering the judicial process,” including the problem of the lack of Court Marshals and staff, document handling, administration, and the condition of the building itself.

The Chamber President Angele Formosa advised that lawyers would continue with their collective action and not attend sittings until solutions to the grievances are found.

The Chamber will be meeting with Justice Minister Edward Zammit Lewis on Monday to discuss the way forward. This will be the second such meeting this month, the last one having failed to resolve the situation.
