Justice Minister Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis, held a meeting on Thursday with the Avukati Ghawdex – Chamber of Advocates (Gozo) – which was also attended by members of the administration of the Court Service Agency including the CEO Ms. Eunice Grech Fiorini.

In a statement on Saturday, the Chamber said that the main topics that need to be addressed immediately were discussed, among them the problem of the lack of Court Marshals and lack of staff, as well as the implementation of the Law on the Judge for Gozo. In addition, other issues were discussed, including the construction of a new court.

The Minister promised Gozitan lawyers that “clear instructions will be given so that in the immediate future, the situation will be improved and thus the problems that exist in the administration of the Court in Gozo will be addressed.”

“In this sense clear terms will therefore be given including also an indication of the time in which these improvements will be carried out,” the Chamber said.

The lawyers practising before the Gozo Court said that they will continue with their collective action by not attending the hearings “until there are remedies suitable to the situation at the Gozo Court by addressing the points discussed during the meeting.”
