Gozo Motocross Championship 2022 – fuelledbyEnemed Enemed-Official Fuel Partners
The first round of the Gozo Motocross Championship 2022 was held at Ta’ Xhajma Track.
Organised by the Gozo Motocross Association, races started at 1pm and the afternoon proved to be an extremely enjoyable experience for both riders and spectators alike.
Rules and regulations were in place according to the Health authorities protocols to safeguard all those present from Covid 19.
Twenty-four riders, including Maltese dirt-bike counterparts and female rider Andria Vella, challenged each other in the usual four categories.
In Class A, third time and current champion 2021 Steve Xuereb achieved maximum points on his Honda CRF 250cc followed by Mario Cauchi and David Dimech respectively. As Xuereb pushed forward, Dimech and Cauchi put on a most competitive show, both of them superior in terms of ability or strength. Jorn Stellini was promoted to this class and his performance was nothing less than his competitors.
In Category B, Biuren Grima came first. Robert Spiteri and Mark Camilleri, champion 2021 in Class C, contested each other for second place, with Spiteri achieving just a few points over Camilleri.
In Class C, Anthony Fenech came in third. Maltese riders Daniel Borg and Michael VonBrockdorff dominated class C as Borg won this category followed by VonBrockdorff Meanwhile class D was dominated by new comer, 14 year old, Jake Camilleri, pursued by Marvin Sultana and Travis Borg respectively.
Following weeks of extensive, hard work, the organisers said that MotoX riders were pleased with the high level of standard of the circuit.
“The rough terrain challenged riders to use power, speed and strength, showing unlimited off-road skills from start to finish,” the GMA said.
GMA president Frank Xuereb, thanked all those who helped and had welcomed the much needed intensive overhaul. “The circuit has reached a high level of quality and professionalism.”
During the presentation of the day’s trophies, supported by DBar Restaurant, he thanked all riders for their participation and said that the GMA looked forward to an exciting season ahead.
Meanwhile the GMA Junior Academy is going full speed ahead. Students from the age of 5 are attending regular classes by certified coaches. In Sunday’s event, 5 riders-Zach Tabone, Luka Haber, Matthias Sultana, Craig Piscopo and Shaiyzen Mercieca, raced each other around the circuit and were all awarded a small trophy for their participation.
Gozo Motocross Association advised that Round 2 of the Gozo Motocross Championship 2021 fuelledby Enemed will take place on the 14th of November.
