The Qala Dog Park has been inaugurated this morning – the first park of its kind in Gozo – at a cost of around € 25,000 which was funded by the Ministry for Gozo.

Through the Eco-Gozo Directorate under which the Animal Protection section falls, the Ministry has developed a part of the Family Garden into a dog park, which consists of two sections – one dedicated to small dogs and another to large dogs.”

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri inaugurated the park, in the presence of the Qala Local Council, and stated that, ”the aim has always been to have a suitable place for dogs so that they can run and exercise at this site.

He added that, ”we were able to keep the cost low on this park because most of the work was done by government workers.” The Minister went on to thank all the workers involved for their valuable work.

The park has been equipped with various accessories so that dogs can do their exercise freely, including ramps, tunnels, obstacles, a small pond and hoops among other things. The park is also equipped with a drinking water fountain for dogs.

The Minister said that ”owners should always be responsible and if they have a dog that they know does not always get along with other dogs, then they should be more cautious.”

The park’s opening hours are from 7 am to 7 pm. The rules indicated on the spot must be observed at all times, the Ministry said.
