Gozitan fishermen could lose boats because Government is ''dragging its feet'' - PNGozitan fishermen are still waiting for the government to take a decision on how, where and when it will be possible to tie up alongside the new pontoons in Mgarr, Gozo, the Nationalist Party has said and accused it of ”dragging its feet.”

In a statement on Thursday, Edwin Vassallo, Spokesperson for Agriculture, Fisheries and Small Businesses, said that ”the fishermen who moor their boats at Mgarr port have been waiting since last September for a decision regarding when they will be able to start using the pontoons which have been ready since August.”

He stressed that because of this delay on using the pontoons these fishermen are worried that if there is a storm the damage caused to the boats could be considerable.

The Nationalist Party called on the government to make a decision ”without further delay and loss of time. ”By dragging their feet the government could cause the loss of boats to these fishermen.”
