There has been another huge surge in new Covid-19 cases with 1,298 found overnight, the first time daily new cases have reached 4 figures. 832 were reported yesterday.

There are 82 Covid patients currently requiring treatment in Mater Dei Hospital (which is the only one reported) including 5 in ITU.

Authorities said that there were 82 new recoveries recorded in the past 24 hours, this now takes the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up over 7,700 to 7,735.

There have been 476 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Health Authorities said that the number of booster doses administered up until yesterday is 198,772. Health Minister Chris Fearne announced earlier today that 9,500 doses of Covid vaccine were administered yesterday.
