Please give some time and donate your blood to help others in GozoThe National Blood Transfusion Service would like to express its thanks to the 52 people who so generously called called to donate blood at Xewkija last Sunday.

The Service stressed that your generosity, especially in this time of the pandemic is greatly appreciated, because the sick can never wait.

It continues to encourage Gozitans to please come forward and donate blood at the next session, which is on Tuesday, the 25th of January from 1pm to 5pm (last registration 5pm).

This will be followed by a session on Sunday, the 30th of January, from 8am to 1pm (last registrations until 1pm) at the Centre in Xewkija, and encourages those who are able to please attend.

The centre is located at the Xewkija Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.

The Service reminds everyone that it is very important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, please encourage others to donate if possible.

Important notes

Those who have undergone the swab test, whether routine or due to travel, are asked to wait until a negative Covid-19 test result is given

As a general guideline, recipients of the Covid-19 vaccine including the booster dose or seasonal flu vaccine should wait 7 days after receiving the vaccine before going to donate blood.

If in the first 48 hours after vaccination, one does not have a fever or symptoms of illness, it can be given after 3 days. This also applies to those who have taken the seasonal flu vaccine.

Anyone who has tested positive for Covid will be able to donate blood two weeks after the end of the quarantine period.

Those who were in quarantine and were not positive for Covid will be able to donate blood as soon as the isolation period ends.
