Blood donations…. are a different expression of love in this month when we remember our loved ones.

The National Blood Transfusion Service is urging Gozitans to therefore please take the time to help those in need by making a donation on one of the four dates during February that are shown below. Giving blood is an essential service, “that cannot be neglected.”

Donations can be made at the District Health Centre in Xewkija, located in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club on any of the dates shown below:

Tuesdays – last registration 5:00pm

8th February from 1:00pm-5:00pm

22nd February from 1:00pm-5:00pm

Sunday – last registration 1:00pm

13th February 8:00am to 1:00pm

27th February 8:00am to 1:00pm.

The Service reminds everyone that it is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, please encourage others to donate if possible.

Important notes

Those who have undergone the swab test, whether routine or due to travel, are asked to wait until a negative Covid-19 test result is given

As a general guideline, recipients of the Covid-19 vaccine including the booster dose or seasonal flu vaccine should wait 7 days after receiving the vaccine before going to donate blood.

If in the first 48 hours after vaccination, one does not have a fever or symptoms of illness, it can be given after 3 days. This also applies to those who have taken the seasonal flu vaccine.

Anyone who has tested positive for Covid will be able to donate blood two weeks after the end of the quarantine period.

Those who were in quarantine and were not positive for Covid will be able to donate blood as soon as the isolation period ends.
