Il-Hagar museum in Gozo reopens on Saturday, the 29th of January, following the completion of maintenance work.

Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to have a first glance at a new temporary exhibition located around the cultural centre’s various levels.

The exhibiting artist is Victor Agius and – In Dialogue – has been chosen as the name for this innovative event which runs until the 8th of March.

The museum said that most of these works focus on how man uses nature and materials around him in rituals towards satisfying material and spiritual needs.

The exhibition showcases contemporary art interventions in ceramics, mixed media sculpture, earth paintings and installations in sound and video – “in dialogue” with Il-Hagar’s art collection. It is curated by Elyse Tonna,

Born in 1982, Agius works in sculpture, painting, video, performance and installation. A visiting lecturer at the University of Malta, he has studied in Malta, Italy and the UK. He co-founded Ars Vitae Ensemble and has exhibited widely locally and abroad.

Victor Agius is represented in private and public collections worldwide, as well as in published books.

Visitors can discuss the works with Victor Agius himself in `Meet the Artist’ sessions on Friday, the 11th of February (6-8pm), Sunday, the 13th (10am till noon, during which he will be working on site) and Saturday, the 19th (11am till noon).

Aficionados may like to book their participation through events@heartofgozo.org.mt but the exhibition can be visited without any entrance fee during Il-Hagar’s normal opening hours of 9am to 5pm seven days a week. The museum is located in St George’s Square. Victoria.
