“If the Covid cases in the community remain under control, then from April 2022 external religious and festive religious activities can be celebrated responsibly.,” the Band Clubs Association has said.

In a statement on Facebook, it said that, “this means that the Good Friday processions will be the first to take place again with protocols in place, and if the situation remains under control, the summer feasts can then celebrated in the normal way.”

The announcement followed “a cordial meeting” held today between Prime Minister Robert Abela, Health Minister Chris Fearne and Profs. Charmaine Gauci, together with a representative from the Archbishop’s Curia and the National Band Clubs Association, which discussed procedures to celebrate external religious activities and external festivities in towns and villages.

The Association stressed that “the main principle of these discussions was that the health of the Maltese and Gozitan people should continue to be given priority.”

Therefore feasts which are celebrated in February and March will be organised in accordance with the present protocols.

The National Band Clubs Association encouraged all those involved in the festivities “to continue to show seriousness and discipline so that we can re-celebrate and organise the religious activities and external festivities that form part of the Maltese heritage.”

It also urged feast enthusiasts “to take their vaccinations as this will help control the worst effects of the pandemic.”
