An 84-year old woman has passed away during the past 24 hours while Covid-19 positive, authorities said.

There has been a surge in the number of new Covid-19 cases with 304 found overnight and 115 recoveries, which now takes the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up to 1,861.

Those requiring treatment in hospital has also risen with 50 in Mater Dei Hospital including 1 who is in ITU (figures for Gozo General Hospital have not been updated).

There have been 619 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The number of booster doses administered up until yesterday is 347,580.
