The approximate average turnout in Gozo to vote in yesterday’s General Election was 86.14%, the Electoral Commission has said. It was 91.56% in the 2017 election. There are 30,925 registered voters in Gozo, and 26,638 turned out to vote.

The average overall total approximate percentage was 85.50% – It was the lowest turnout ever. In the 2017 General Election it was 92%.

Following the close of voting last night, the conciliation of the votes has been taking place at Naxxar.

The counting process was due to get underway at around 9am. Party Agents will take a sample from each of the ballot boxes to assess their projections.

The counting process is electronic, this is the first time in a General Election.

There are 13 electoral districts including Gozo and Comino, and for every district, 5 members are elected to the House of Representatives through the STV system, the single transferable vote.

The vote is initially allocated to the 1st choice election candidate, and then, after a candidate has been either elected or eliminated, the unused vote is transferred to the 2nd choice candidate.

The turnouts by 10.00pm for the General Election 2022 for each district was as follows:

First District: 85.55%

Second District: 87.14%

Third District: 87.85%

Fourth District: 86.87%

Fifth District: 87.19%

Sixth District: 87.35%

Seventh District: 88.02%

Eighth District: 86.29%

Ninth District: 84.35%

Tenth District: 81.59%

Eleventh District: 84.79%

Twelfth District: 78.38%

Thirteenth District: 86.14%.
