Arthall is inviting the public to its next opening night – Abstract Gozo – by Jamie F. on Friday, the 13th of May at 7.30pm. This exhibition is a celebration of the underlying mystery that is the soul of the island of Gozo.
Abstract Gozo is lenswork by English artist, Jamie F, who maps the Gozitan coast with the eyes of a painter combined with the sharp focus of a traditional camera work.
The gallery explained that he brings to light the quality behind the ordinary, uncovering the curves and angles of pre-cognitive experience.
Jamie F, who is from Newcastle, England, said that he retreated to the island of Gozo, where he “rediscovered his oeuvre after many barren years in the wilderness.”
Gozo provides him with the vital tranquillity which allows access to the deep seated beauty inherent in the world, the artist said.
Jamie F. writes:
“On A Spinning Rock Even Stop Never Stops
Artists are the archaeologists of the future tense
extracting meaning from the very edges of reality
art is an existential struggle
with that pernicious conformity
which bears the hallmarks of control
all artists are to be
theorised into submission
if they resist they are to be
excommunicated and ignored
aesthetic expression versus
false-arts
reductio ad absurdum
for those who cannot do
teach.
No Thing is True Every Thing is Permissible.”
The exhibition runs until the 12th of June. Opening hours: Wednesday to Saturday from 10-13 and 17-19; Sunday from 10-12, at Arthall – 8, triq Agius de Soldanis, Victoria, Gozo.
