The “British Heritage Food Hall” within the Savina Artisan Centre in Xewkija Gozo, was officially inaugurated on Friday by Her Excellency British High Commissioner Katherine Ward LVO OBE.

Her Excellency was greeted by Mr John Magro, Chairman of Magro Brothers, as well as his children Joanna Mercieca Magro, Manager of Savina Creations Ltd, Christian and Nicholas Magro.

The “British Heritage Food Hall” currently offers an array of “exquisite British delights in joy-giving packaging,” Magro said.

The current range includes a wide selection of keepsake tea caddies, English confectionery and sweets in beautiful presentation boxes and award-winning range of condiments, relishes and pairing sauces for the pantry.

This dedicated food hall is an extension to an exceptional selection of regional Italian delicacies, “Piaceri Italiani” and of course… the flagship products, produced locally, under the Savina brand.

H.E. Katherine Ward was given a tour around the Savina centre where she witnessed a number of Maltese products in the making.

During the visit, Mr John Magro, reminisced of his ancestral family ties with the British since the early 1900s, when “Kunserva” was first produced in tubes specifically for the British Naval forces… a feather in the cap of the first Magro Brothers.

Mr Magro also mentioned his family’s close connection with HRH Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who had inaugurated the Savina Artisan Centre in 2005 and was annually presented with Savina delicacies as a pledge, till his passing.

Her Excellency said that she was “highly impressed” with the showcase of Maltese and British range of products and highly complemented the resourcefulness and initiative taken to broaden Savina’s horizons to include such an exquisite range of British food fare.

She also thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and infusion of Maltese food enhanced with British products.
