During a visit to the day centre for people with dementia, Dar Padova in Ghajnsielem, Minister for Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, announced an €140,000 investment for new facilities that will continue to improve the quality of life for the elderly within the heart of the community where they live.

The investment will see the opening of new clinics including a new outreach clinic that will start offering a vascular clinic service, podiatry, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, interventions related to dementia and others.

The Minister explained that the modernisation of existing facilities will also be carried out with the aim of continuing to strengthen the services linked to the care of the elderly in Gozo.

Accompanied by the CEO of the Agency for Active Ageing and Community Care Renzo Degabriele and by the CEO of the Standards Authority for Social Care Lisa Cassar Shaw, Minister Abela met and spoke with some of the elderly who frequent this centre.

He mentioned how Dar Padova has been a relief for many Gozitans over the last six years, and stressed that the Government will continue to commit to maintaining and even improving the level of care provided.

“This home not only serves as a day centre for people with dementia but also for the elderly who wish to use the shelter service during the night. Dar Padova also helps Gozitan families by offering a service that ensures a better quality of life in the heart of the community,” the Minister said.
