Arbor Day is celebrated in Malta on the 15th of January, other countries around the world observe this special day on different dates, but all have the same aim, to celebrate the preservation and planting of trees.
Arbor (the Latin name for tree) Day was first proposed in the 19th century by J. Sterling Morton, an American journalist and politician, who famously wrote, “Other holidays repose upon the past; Arbor Day proposes for the future.”
In Gozo, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri joined first and second year students of Kercem Primary School to mark Arbor Day in the Censu Xiberras garden, where they potted some small plants to take home.
The Minister said, “we continue to foster an environmentally friendly culture among our children.”
