Enemalta said that it is “speeding up its repair works, as the number of faults on new high-voltage underground cables has decreased.”

It added that the heatwave started subsiding on Wednesday, as cooler temperatures saw a lower number of new network difficulties and improved response times.

As more repaired cables are energised, Enemalta said it “continues to re-establish the network’s flexibility and resilience.”

Enemalta explained that the repairs are giving the company’s network Control Centre the required alternative connections to restore supply to customers impacted by new network difficulties in less time.

Customers impacted by a network fault in parts of Hamrun and Santa Venera on Wednesday night were reconnected to the grid within a few hours, the company said.

In some cases, however, if there are multiple faults in the same areas or other similar difficulties, as happened during the last 10 days, “longer restoration times may still be required.”

Enemalta went on to say that it is continuing to increase its technical teams to speed up the ongoing repairs.

On Wednesday night, Enemalta engineers and technicians also completed a separate operation to replace a damaged substation transformer in Qormi.

The company said customers impacted by this network difficulty were reconnected to the grid as soon as the new transformer was tested and energised.

Meanwhile, Enemalta said its Customer Response Teams tackled several other smaller faults which developed on the low-voltage network, which distributes electricity from substations to customers. “These localised faults may affect the electricity supply of individual customers or small areas, such as part of a street.”
