The Nationalist Party, in a statement on Saturday by Home Affairs spokesperson Joe Giglio, said that “we have a Police Corps that is “overworked, overstretched and definitely not overpaid.”

The PN called for the collective agreement “that has long been discussed, to finally be concluded.”

It stressed that such agreement should “offer really strong incentives to stop people from leaving the Police Force and to increase the number of people who choose to enter the Corp.”

The Opposition insisted that “Police should also get full pension, and not what the Abela’s Government offered, even if they continue to work in the Corp after having completed 25 years of service.”

The PN went on to say that “security in our country continues to be threatened as the violent and tragic incidents continue to increase.”

“It is also necessary that the criticism that is made, be constructive, and that the Government listens to it and acts to address the serious deficiencies that exist in the enforcement of the laws,” the PN said.

It stressed that “experience has taught us that without discipline everyone begins to feel that they can do what they want and thus the security of each and every one is weakening.”

The Nationalist Party concluded by insisting that the Government “takes this sector seriously.” Adding that it “believes in a policy that serves for a better life in our country.”
